For those saying South Korea doesn’t know that “blackface” is hurtful to others outside of their country, please read the link below.
“This performance stopped at the end of 1987, he explained, because during the 1988 Olympics there would be people coming from Africa, and they decided then that “We don’t want to denigrate black people” and “It would be better not to do it.” [Note: Wikipedia says their performance went from 1987 to 1988.]” - taken from the link below.
They stopped it during the Olympics because it would denigrate black people. Not innocent. Not ignorant. Time has gone by since then, and we have a new generation who may not fully understand, as i’ve seen from some so many who tried to defend it by calling it cosplay.
I’m not calling Yesung or Super Junior racist. No. (Although some of the comments defending them have been borderline.) It wasn’t done with malice, it wasn’t done with hate. I do call them ignorant. It isn’t their culture, it isn’t their history. I would be ignorant myself if i called them racists, because my history is not taught to them. BUT the quote i posted above, and the link posted below, show that there is SOME knowledge within the country of how wrong it is - “denigrate black people.” It is a fine line.
Telling someone not to be offended for this wrong, because it is offensive to some. Comparing it to dressing up as an “animal” (yup saw that too) or painting yourself green, not wrong. It isn’t the same thing. He could have appeared as Nick Fury without painting his face the skin colour of the character.
My skin colour, my hair texture IS NOT a costume. Period. Your skin colour, your eyes, your hair texture is NOT a costume either. Our voice, our accent is NOT something to mock in jest or cosplay.
Instead of getting angry, or forming your opinions without learning history from BOTH sides, take a moment and do so. Dialogue is needed.
As an Elf, and for those blindly defending or attacking, just take a moment and think.

“♥} SUPER SHOW 5 in North America: sj-world.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=77299
The dead line has been extended once again. You now have till May 1, 2013 to Submit your videos/pictures! Please do not be discouraged by the extensive rules, we realized we made the mistake in enforcing too many strict requirement. In doing so we have soften up the requirements and hope more North American ELF can participate.
Also, there has been a slight change. Due to the lack of participation part 3 has now been merged with part 1. Part 1 will now be video clips of people sending letters as well as clips of reenacting music videos, or variety shows ect. (please read the thread for a detailed description of what part 1 is now officially). Part 2 will remain as is and we hope that this will make it easier and encourage you to join this project. We would really hate to cancel the project because of lack of participation, it wouldn’t be fair to the staff putting this project together as well as the other ELF who have submitted their lovely entries.
Let’s unite for the sake of having a concert in North America! We can do this ELF! Let’s support each other.
You can initiate your own meet ups like we had done for the meet up in Los Angeles. You do not need permission from the staff! Do it! Don’t be shy guys! Join us! ”
